Harris Hardin Averett Correspondence, 1854-1863

Harris Hardin Averett (1834-18638) was a resident of Tallapoosa County, Alabama and served in Co. B, 55th Alabama Infantry. At the time of the Federal Census of 1860, Averett and his wife, Malinda (b. ca. 1836), were living in the Realtown neighborhood, where Averett made his living as a mechanic. They had married in January 1857. The Averetts had at least two children, Amon (b. ca. 1859) and Hattie (b. ca. 1863). Harris H. Averett died of disease in October 1863 while in the Confederate service.
