William J. Nobles Letter

William J. Nobles (b. ca. 1843) was a farm laborer from near Georgetown in Quitman County, Georgia. He enlisted as a private in Co. B, 51st Georgia Infantry on March 4, 1862. He appears to have been ill for most of his period of service and died of typhoid fever at Winder Hospital in Richmond on November 14, 1862. The single letter in this collection also includes a small section written by McDaniel Braswell who appears to have been a native of neighboring Clay County, Georgia and who served as a private in Co. I, 51st Georgia Infantry. William Nobles was the son of Quitman County farmer James Nobles and Nancy Nobles. Braswell appears to have been an in-law of the Nobles family.
