Biography: 

James B. Brown (b. ca. 1841) was the son of John C. Brown (b. SC ca. 1810), a farmer and slaveholder in Winston County, Mississippi. He enlisted in Co. F, 14th Mississippi Infantry on January 8, 1862 at Bowling Green, Kentucky. He surrendered with his regiment at Fort Donelson on February 16, 1862 and was confined at Camp Douglas, Illinois before being exchanged in September at Vicksburg. J. B. Brown was discharged for disability on November 19, 1862 by reason of “affection of the lungs.” His brother, Jesse T. Brown (b. ca. 1839), also served as a Confederate soldier during the war.
