John A. Everett (b. ca. 1843) was a Houston County, Georgia shoe and harness maker. In July 1861, he enlisted in the Houston Volunteers, Co. K, 11th Georgia Infantry, along with his father, Jesse H. Jesse Everett died of disease in Richmond on December 25, 1861, and Thomas Everett was captured at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6, 1864. John A. Everett surrendered at Appomattox on April 9, 1865. Most of Everett’s letters were written to his mother, Patience Everett (b. ca. 1827).
