John W. Hodnett Letters, 1861-1863
The Hodnetts had a large farm in the Long Cane District of Troup County, Georgia. At the time of the 1860 Census, John W. Hodnett (b. ca. 1830) resided in the household of his parents, William Hodnett (b. VA ca. 1796) and Caroline Hodnett (b. VA ca. 1810). John W. Hodnett served as a private in Co. K, 13th Georgia Infantry, and his service records indicate that died in Virginia on November 24, 1862 (cause of death not reported).This small collection consists of five letters written by John to various family members and one letter written by his brother, T. J. Hodnett, who also served in Co. K. The Hodnetts were a large family and several other brothers served in the Confederate Army.
