Robert T. Conley (b. ca. 1844) was from Jackson County, North Carolina and served in Co. A, 16th North Carolina Infantry. He was wounded and captured at the Battle of Fair Oaks (Seven Pines). After being exchanged, Conely was appointed a lieutenant in Co. F, Infantry Regiment, Thomas’ North Carolina Legion (69th NC Inf.), where he served with his brother, James (b. ca. 1839), and with other Conley relatives. At the time of the Federal Census of 1860, James and Robert Conely were living in the household of their father, J. W. Conley (b. ca. 1813), a Jackson County farmer. Lt. James Conley was mortally wounded at the Battle of Piedmont, Virginia in June 1864. Robert T. Conley survived the war and died on December 18, 1892 at Munford, Alabama, survived by his wife and six children.
