Futch Letters, 1861-1863

The Futch Family lived in New Hanover County, North Carolina. Brothers Charles and John served as privates in Co. K, 3rd North Carolina Infantry. Charley was killed at Gettysburg in July 1863. John left his regiment a few weeks after the battle and was shot for desertion in September 1863. Many of the brothers letters were written for them by others. The collection also includes letters written to John by his wife, Martha Ramsey Futch.
