Sumerville July the 13 1862

Dear father and mother
fore the first time I have attempted to rite
to a worthey father and Mother I must
exnolidge sum things that is Good and sum
that is bad I and the boys is injoying a
resenable potion of helth at this time
Y. J. is better he is in the hospitle yet
he ses he is able to Cum to Camps but the
Dr ses he wants him to Get well before
he discharges him from the hospitle [H H?]
is in there toe wee have a rite Smart
of sickness Since wee left the Run wee
moved to James island from there and
had no watter fit to drink and wee think
that was the cas of so mutch sickness in
our battalion wee struck up march the
tenth of July and marchd to Charleston
and Got on the train and cum to this
plase it is sum 20 miles a bove Charleston
on the railrode I Cant tell how long wee
will Stay hear the rumer is at our battalion
and two other ridgements will go to vergina
in a short time tho not noing I Cant say
for surtin tha is a call for 2000 men out
of our state to go there tha must be well

drild is what the Col ses and I think at
tha will take the number from the Cast that
Cold for and put the conscrips hear
as far as I am consurnd I think I had as
live rest my life there as hear tho I never had
better helth in my life than I have had since
I have bin in the army our battalian is
a bout 400 Strong when tha are all hear but
wee Cant rais more than 200 50 well men [1]
at this time amunxt the dede wee
morn the loss of our Capttin who died with
the Cuntry feaver his Death will be a very
hevy loss on our side he is done with
the strugling wars and I hope our loss
is his grait gain I got a letter from
Margret the other day and she stated at
the crops was as god as Cold expected I am
glad to think that our Crop and others is
as faverable as what tha are I suppose
that the wheat Crops was near a failier
and oats intire So tha is no chance to Get
furlgh for Sick nor well persons I N[???]fer
sends his respects to you and family
