Jan 28th 1862
Dear Brother I seat myself this
morning to drp you afew lines which
will inform you that we are all well
hoping when this comes to hand hit
may find you all well and doing well
Young Styles has got his trunk he sent
them pins and needles up here last sun
day they was three papers of pins and two of
needles. Jackson Cannon came up dead
on Sunday and was burried yesterday but
none of us dident go. There was a runaway
match the other day up on Saluda Hanah
Hightour ran away with Haris we heard
he hadent seen her in 5 months but
I recen some body toated letters for them
Pa received a short letter from you last
wednsday night with only 24 pages in it
he got one from Washing at the same
time and then he got another from you on friday

William I started to meeting last sunday
and got as far Marthas and met Jane Tinsley
and Miss Redfern and Martha Bailey and
we came back home Thornton went on
to meeting he said there was a good ma[n]y
people. Jane Tinsley sed she was agoing to
have a big party when all of the boys gets
back but I fear they will never all get
back alive again William you and John
ought to of bin here last friday night Francis
Boswell and Martha Bailey was here and John
Bailey and Lem Boswell & Elferd Dill and
George McCracken from North Carolina
he lives near Crab Tree. P. O. I expect
you have seen hime he has bin at Dills
about two weeks we had a play though
hit dident seem right to be aplaying and
not see you William I dreamed last
night that they had made peace and you
all was a coming home I hope my dream
will come to pass soon there has bin a trial
over at H F Taylors to day Pa has just
came back they tride to make a vagernt

of Arch Forester but they dident do any
thing with him he sed he was agoing
off and they let him go
John Mother ses she will make them
pants and send them to you the first
chance William Berry Hall and William [1]
staid here last Thursday night they had
bin down below with apples Berry said
to tell you that he received one letter
form you and he answered it but
he never got any answer
William two ov your Uncles
Tramells has just left
here but I do not know there names
they have bin looking at a wagon
I must quit writeing for this
time for I havent time to write
any more write as soon as this
comes to hand no more at the
present but remains your truly
