Camp near Brandy Station Va
Dear Mother
as I have a few leisure moments
I will try and write a few
lines to you to let you
know that I am well at
presant and I hope these
few lines will find you
all enjoying the same
good blessing. I wrote a
letter to you some time
ago and havent received an
answer I sopose you dident
get it.
Dear Mother sister Roose
told me in her last letter
that you wasent very well
and I am sorry to hear it
She thinks you was worreyed
[page 2]
about me. perhaps she is
misstaken, but if it is so
I,ll, atvise you not to be
uneasy about me for I am
comfortable enough and I
think it is everry loyal
mans duty to fight
for his country and my
time is of servize is getting
shorter everry day I am in
the army now about 20
month and have been spaired
so far and never was sick
of any accoant and I hope
the lord will spair me
and you to meet each other
again in this world if not
I hope to meet you in
a home where death is
no more to part us
[page 3]
for my part I think
I am as safe here as I
am at home I see in
letters that I get from home
that agread many more
died at home of sickness
then there is dying here in
the army according to the
number of people the Lord
can save a mans life
Just as easy here as any
other plaise all the diferan
ce is a person sees the
dainger plainer here then at
any other plaise and if I was
at home I could suport
you better than I can here
for the wages is verry low
for a solder otherwise I
am Just as soon here as any
[page 4]
other plaise I think I wouldent
be satis fied if I was home as
long as this war lasts
Mother if you please sent me
a little black thread in the
next letter you sent our sutlers
are all goen now and I
necolected to get any for they
all went away. we have warm
weather here now the fields are
getting green this week I was
out and got some dandelyon
there is plenty of it here
I have got verry good quarters
here I am in a brick house
so no more at present
P.S. write soon
I will remain your
affectionate Son
Daniel Faust
Dear Mother pray for me
I wil pray for you
