Dear wife I
take this operunity
of writing a few lines
to you hoping thay
will finde you all well
as thay leave us all at
present I receved your
kinde and welcome letter
dated the 18 last night
I am sorey to hear that
you and our aney are
so unwell your letter
was delade as i receved
your paper two ore three
days agow dated the 16
we had a hevey rane
and hale storme hear yester
day after noone it continued
about twenty minutes

fore severel days it was
quite plesent after the
rane but it looks like
more reane becoming
sultrey our troopes are
in a fare way fore
richmond i hope the
next letter i write will
bee in richmond and

our rigment evereything
seams to be working
well slow and shure
I am sorey to hear
of death Mr Campbell

that our gun boates
ware defeted in the
james river i thinke
