Yorktown va
October 5th 1861
Dear Sister
I now take the pleasur
of writing you a short letter to let
you no that I am well and the rest
of our company is doing a good deal
better since we moved the last time
and I think now we will continue to
mend as the weather is more pleasant
we have had a frost or two up here
I guess you have not seen any yet
Well mag I heard a while ago that we
were ordered to move again near the first
regiment where we heard they were landing
troops but I cannot say that we are positively
for I dont no but I think we will soon
make and attact on munro [1] which is worth
Something to us if we get it tho there
will be great many that will get killed
before they Scale the walls I may bee one
but I am not afraid of any yanky
that walks our men caught one thursday
and one Friday near hampton and was
braught in here to yorktown for safe
keeping mag we have a right good time

Here out of a hard one we can get
a plenty to eat and we can buy other
things here such as shugar coffee butter
chees and other things coffe is worth one
dollar pr lb butter 50 cts pr lb and so on
for other things mag I have bin looking
for a letter from you Ever since yearly
meeting that is the caus of my not writing
before now I cannot here from you
nor reuben unless I see Some person
from tarboro but I hope you both are
well and continue to be mag I am
larger now then I ever was in my life
and as hearty ben is flesheyer
now than you have seen him he has had
two chills this week but now he is riping
around here with us again he is all
life mag I saw kenneth Thigpen to day
he is well and mack is well to and his
sick ones is better we will take a drink
together befor we part Shure if I can
Skear it up tell mary broun I am well
tell ulay I am coming to See her to
morrow evening if I can make it convenient
and tell kate Jenkins I will if she
wont and if She will I wont well I must
Quit for I have wrote out you must
excuse me for writing Such trash as

got to write about I hope these few
lines may reach you all well and as
Spry as I am at present So nomore
at this time give my best Respects to
all of your family and receive the
Same for yourself yours verry truly
