Near petersburg V.A.
Dear Brother I write you these
lines to inform you that I am
well hoping they may find you
all in good Health we are
Still Lying near petersburg I cant
tell how long we will Stay
here there is not much fight
ing here now they had a
blow up and a fight over the
other side of peter burg last
Saturday the yankees Blowed
up apart of our Breast works
and killed some of our men
Our men took the Breast
works Back the Same day
and killed a good many negroes

you told me to inquire about
your son I have not heard a
word from him yet I want
you to write to me as soon
as you Recive these lines
and tell me hear all the
news of the Neigberhood
give my Best Respects
to all your family and tell
Brother John and his family
and let my wife and mother
in law know I am well
and give them my Love
and tell them I would like to see
them mighty well write soon and
often no more at present But
I Remain your brother till death
