Dear July the .4 . 1862
Wife I take the plesure of writing you
a few lines this eavening to inform
you that I am not well now hant
Bin since I left N Carolina tho , and
Better than I have bin i am able to
ceape up and help to cook tho I dont
do any other duty I am in hopes these
lines may come safte to hand and
find you and all the family enjoy
ing the best of health I have nothing
of importance to write times is quiet
hear at this time tho I dont now
how long they will remain so though
I am in hops they will remain so
untill peace is mad some is of the
opinion that the most of the fighting
is don as to my on part I cante
say though I am in hopes it is for I
am tiard of the war I want
to bee at home with you all
and am in hopes of doing s[o] in
a few more months ----

I can in form you that this is
fourth letter that I writen to you
and have never cieve but one
from you and if you hant got
money to buy the postag I will send
you some and still if you dont
write I shall think it is time to
stop Dear wife I want you to send
me som soape and tobaco by the
first one that passes for it is the
wirst chance that you ever saw to
get any thing hear tobaco is wirth
one dollar per pound and soap 2
dollars Butter one dollar and teenty
cents I want you to send me
[??] pounds of butter wee have quite
[????] any thing at all whiskey is
[???][$5?] per qrt tell Mr [????] [1]
[????] that I am in hopes that I
will get home time [????]
help him drink some of his cider
and Brandy so I will close. nothing
more ondley remaining your affectant
