Camp Martin Nov 22nd 1861
Near Raleigh NC
Dear father I Seet my Self to day to Let
you know that I am as well as common at
preasant hoping these few Lines will find yow
and the family ingoying the same blessing
I Arived at the camp A wensday nite about dark
the captain and all the rest was glad to see me
the captain never said A word about me staing
home I gave him that subcripseon and that was all
that was said but we moved yesderday out five
miles from raleigh one mile from the sentrel railrode
and A Leven men from every company has this morning
gon to cutting house ligs aming to put up houses
to stay in thair is two thousdan men here in about
half a mile of each other the most men that I ever
saw at one time i cannot till when we shall leve
here perhaps not till next spring all of my things are
here for the capt said so this is A very prety place
to live but hire is the most rocks you ever saw for
the ground is coverd with rocks I fare as well as I did
before three days hog meet and three days beef the
bread is like it was only three days in A week we
get lite bread cooked in town eat it for our helth
I see so much that my mind is tourn up nomore at
