Camp Ransum Near Peetersburg
Dear Mother june the 24 1862
I take my pen in
hand to inform you that I am
well an in good spriet but I am
A good ways from home this Morning
I suppose you have heard that we have
moved to old verguina we got hear
last saturday morning we are station
three mils beyond the town from
whare you Live between peetersburg and
Richmond it is just twenty mils
from hear to Richmond this is A
very prety place for A camp but
in rainy wether it is very weet
and nasty as for our farieg A coming
hear it was common but we draud
yesderday hog meet flour an A Little rice
and crackers I suppose we will get
A plenty I never Lost any thing A coming
hear thair is sevrel troops hear hear
in one ofnen thair is seven rigments they
want to get A Large army here for

we expect A Larg fight soon at Richmond
three regments Come here yesderday and
our men has been in Line of battle
five days at Richmond it is thought
that the fight will come of soon if we
can whip thair I think the war will
close soon for all of our troop are
Around Richmond and we expect to
to go on thair evry day if we dont
go now we shall go when the fight
takes place for we are station
near the railroad Mother from
goldsburro to hear is the sorrest
crops I ever saw or ever heard tell
of for the time of the year the corn
is all drounded and never will make
any thing hardly thair is prety girls
hear they seem very polite with us
I talked with sevrel sence I been here
and they Like A soldier and the sitisen
are fine people I have not wrote all
that I want to but I must close
