Dear Sister December the 22 1864
I take my pen in hand to
write you a few lines to let you Know that I am
well hoping when thes few lines comes to hand
they may find you all well and doing well I thought
Bing that Sam Rutchel was coming home I would
write a few lines and send by him I have no news
worth writing to you all quite on the lines as far
as I know tho I can tell you we ar a bout to perish
her I tell you what we draw for two days we eat
up in one day then dont have near a nuff to eat at that
I tell you I am write sik I get so hunger I wrote a leter
to you the other day for you to send me a box
I still want you to send me a box be shore and
send me one if you can they say that ever month
Hagy sends a pasel of Box to the soldurs ever
month It dont cost any thang to send a box to us
ever 25 of the month Hagy in Salem sends
a parsel of Boxes I want you to send me some
flower and some fat meat some molases
and some Sasengs and peas an beanes any thang
so to eat send me some soap some unions
Leiz a beth I want you to send me a par of
socks By Sam Rutchel when he comes Back
I have got any to wear Know as for other close
