it my duty to gave you
some information of
affairs in this part of
Jackson County though
if it is in resn your
honor will pleas excuse
me for my ignorance in
this case Thare is yet
I am informe 3 or 4 men
lurking in these parts
I donot baliev it is for fear
of going back into service
2 of them was taken
prisners and parole in Ky
last fall and from thare
made their way home they
tol me they woul go
back when ex Change
an appear to be anxious

one of them and I suppose
boath never knew any thing
of your first proclamation
for all to go an report at
head quarters until 3 or 4 days
be fore the time expir but
they starte to their companys
in about 2 hours after
hearing it as they had no
money an no transportation
thay starte a foot thoow

baliev they was harrost by
the tory got frighten an
made their es cape back to
Macon NC an as they was
sick an worn aut the
came back here by this
time your 2 proclamation
too for Spent to do them
any good they stayed 3 days to

if they treate them as
diserters it Shoud not be their
own falt but before they
had gone far they wore toll
as Shure as they went back
they would not be allowed any
witness an be shot shure so
they stopt I am very shure if
you can gave them pardon they
will immediately go back one
of them belongs to the 29 the
other 39 Reg Nc they have
fought hard an say they will
again the reason they knew
nothing of your proclamation
was we had no mail I havent
got my papers but one time
since the middle of Jan last
on account of deep Snow an
high waters if you can pardon
them write to me immediately

I balieve was take in Md or Va
I will also inform you thare is
a great cry among the soldiers
wives here an in parts of
Macon for Iron to make their
crops with this year some of
them cant get a poun at any

Caroline has a large farm an
but 2 very short plows to
make her crop with I went to
Franklin 2 to get iron to la her
plows but coul not get a
poun they woul be glad you
would send them some Iron
