Core was wounded at Ft. Stedman on March 25, 1865, taken prisoner at a hosptial in Petersburg on April 3, and confined in various Federal hospitals before being released on June 29, 1865.]]

Dear friend as I hope you will be
I Seat my self this eavning with
a Sorful hart to in form you how I fear [1] and all the res of the
Soldiers wivs and children I draw
10 dolars a month and hav to pay
1 dolar and 5 cent for bacon and 4
dollars and 50 cent for one bushel
of corn and 30 cent for one pound
of flour and 50 cent for one quart
of rice and if that dont deserv
a friend I dont no what dos and
the soldiers dos not fear no better
they hav to by Som thing eat with
ther wages or they would perish
I hav four small children my
husband is in the 24 reg company
F he is last drumer and if they
dont fear better they will

and if they dont use there
wivs better they will rais
A crowd take Somthing to
eat and I want your advice
