May the 28th 1863
To his Excelency Govener Vance
I write to you these line to
Inform you that I have ben
damaged to a certain Extent
by a squad of men under a man
Caled Leut Campbell when searching
for deserters & conscripts they came
to my house some three months
ago and broak open an out
house and taken off several articles
of property and carried it to
one James Hughs in Chatham
County and there locked it up
and gave Hughs the Key and told
him to let no person have
it and I want to know if I
can get my property again
or am I to loose it intirely
I have a use for all that I
have and non to spear and
I do hope that there will be some
order made in this case so

I may get my own wrigts for
that is all that I ask is to be
protected in my rights and property
also at an other time a man
by the name of Gunter from
Chatham county came there
an taken off my gun and
a taned sheepskin and carried
it away I do not know where
I want to know whether I am to
loose my property intirely or not
