[Richey served in Co. I, 11th NC Inf. He was wounded at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. He returned to duty before the end of the year and was killed at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864. ]

Governor Vance
Dear sir
I take the opportunity to write
you a few lines I want to no
whether there will be any chance
to get a Contract to make ware
for the government or a detail
Mr Govonor vance I will state
to you that I am tolerable bad
Corruptureed I can stand making
ware beter then marching
for instans for chamber Mugs for
Hospital use alse galon pitchers
and too gallon pitchers would
be Necessary for Hosptial use
also three half pint bottels
for puting Medicean in and
also wash boals Dishes Mugs

and all kind of ware from
one gallon upto five I will
obligate miself to make this
ware and deliver it at linconton
Depot N.C for 25 cents for a
gallon also bottles for 16 cts
a peas for putting Medicean in
or I will either deliverit it
at Charlotte for 30 cts per gallon
and also plates at 20 cts a
pies I have bin in servise
fifteen Months Mr. Govorner
vance I aske this of you
being I hant a sound man
I live 12 Miles from linconton
pleas send me a few lines
in answer to they above
