[Pouns (b. ca. 1845) served as a private in Co. G, 20th NC Inf. He was captured at Hatcher’s Run on April 6, 1865 and released on June 30, 1865. ]

Dear ser I take the onher August 5th 1863 Wilmington NC
of aplyin to you to Day With
obedience Sir I am a Solgar 7 seventeen years old I have Bin
in three Batels I entered the Sarvis at the beginin
of the war and I have done my Duty as near as any Solgar
in the war I have that recommendation from my capt
I have A very aged mother all alone and now I am onable
to Do my Duty of any Sort I wish to Do what I can
for the South I have had adreadful risin on my
leg under my Knee [u]pon back side of my leg and in
havin it lanced I had one of the Cinures [1] Cut and
it Drawed it up very Bad in Deed I wish to get A
recommendation from you Ser for some Detale
that I Can Do hear I would bee glad to hear soon
I am yours very Obedient untel Death
