Anson County NC Oct the 7th 1863
Honerable Z B Vance Gov of NC
I take the privlege to write you thes
lines to ask mearcy from your
hands my Husband volenteered in
the Confdrate Service last Feb
& went in service the 11th of march
Stade with the Regt untel the 2nd
of June went through a great deal
of hard ships marching &c which is
common for solgers he was not helthy by
no means before he went in service
but stood his part of it untel the
time before mentioned he was then
Sent to the Hospital at Guinea Station
va & was transfurd to Juction & gordon
sville & Lynchburl & from thare to Farm
vill va I went to se him but went to
Lynchburg & had to come back 68 miles
to Farmvill before I found him I

fund him very weak stade thare
nearly on weak wating for him to
get wel anuf to come home & beging
the doctors to grant him leaf of ab
sence which they Did the 31st of July
he was Furlowd for thirty Days but
has not bin able for sirvice yet &
has got his Furlow exstended untel the
last of this Ins [1] & I beg & implore you
to Discharge him & let him stay at
home I have 4 litle children to
suport & have never Drawed one cent
I had to leve the corn feeld & borow
moneny to go to se my Husband
I have plowed & hoed & worked In
the field like a negro I have no
Farther living nor no relations near
me that is able to help me now
