Dear Sir I Armsted Coffey
here in the guard house
for desertion I came home
without leave I did not try
to keep out of the way of the
authorities I was arrested on the
18th of of this Inst at my house
in Caldwell County NC.
this is my first time and
if you will be pleased to
pardon me for this I will
Return to my Regt and
be a good soldier and do
so nomore your humble
