The Private Voices project would not exist without the help of many hands, especially the students at Missouri State University. These included graduate students enrolled in English 793, Seminar in Linguistics, between 2009 and 2015. These students transcribed a substantial amount of the documents which make up the Corpus of American Civil War Letters. The research assistants who served every semester from the Fall of 2008 through the Spring of 2015, also produced a remarkable number of high-quality transcriptions. Each of these students is identified with the collections they transcribed. The project owes a tremendous debt to W. D. Blackmon, the head of the English Department at Missouri State University, who was a constant supporter of the project. In addition, we would like to acknowledge three colleagues who photographed or scanned letters for the project: Brandon Cooper, who visited archives and libraries in North Carolina and Texas; Radoslaw Dylewski, who visited libraries in South Carolina and Virginia; and Tiffany Williams, who photographed letters at the Briscoe Center at the University of Texas. Finally, we must acknowledge the many institutions which allowed us to photograph their collections or who supplied photocopies.
