Mobile Alabama May the 1st 1862
Dear father i Seat my Self this
evning to let you know hou i am
gitting along i have been very sick
i have had the pneumonia but i am
gitting better i can walk all over the
house but i am very weak i came here
on the 20 of April when the Rigm
came and i lay in bed most all
the time till yesterday i got up and
walked about W H Cochran is
here with me i have been treated well
i git more than i can eat can git
any thing that i want but i have
no appetite to eat the Rigment
left here on Wednesday and the
cars ran of the track and killed 6 of
them an hurt severals more
i have not heard frome them
since i recon they are at corenth
it is 375 miles a north east
course from here i would like

to be able to go to them or to go
home till i go Stout again but that
is what i cant git to do at this time
i am tired staying here i think
if i hav no bad luck i will be able
to go in 7 or 8 days i want to get
good well before i go So i wont have
to go to the hospital any more i dont
hear much news here the yankeys
i[s] about to take new orleans the men
kep going on to corinth there are look
ing for one of the bigist fights that
has ever been fought yet they say
if we whip them there the war will
be ended i wish it would for
i am tird of it if i could keep
well i could do better i was here
three days before i new that there
was a[n]y of our men here and i felt
like i would give my years wages
to have been at home but the alaba
mians was very kind to me and
waited on me them that was able

i am most out of something to
write i feel very week i would
like to be at home the worst sort
but it looks like i will not git
home soon again they have made a law
for to keep all twelve months men
in for the war and thare no 12 month
men i have nothing more to write
at this time i think i will be
able to go out in toun in two o[r] 3
days i want to hear from home
it has been a good while since i
got aletter i want you to write
as soon as you git this and back
it to Corrinth Miss and i will
be there by the time it gits there
So nothing more at present bu[t]
