Dear Wife it is with pleasure
that I seat myself to drop you afew
lines which will show you that I
am not well yet but thank god
I am some better than I have ben
and I hope those few lines may find
you all well I was sorow to hear i
n your last letter that hamelton was
sick but I hope he is Well by now
I am allso sorow to hear that uncle
John fulmer an Mr Sulton is dead
my dear I have no newse to write at this
time I will tell you that We had ahard
time in the fite We Was on the march
and in line of battle for 8 days but thank
god We come out safe I cant tell you the
loss either Side We taken lots of
yankey prisners that I saw and lots
more that I never got to see so I cant tell
how it is the battle ground was 10 or 12
miles long I received your two very
kinde letters dated the 26 april 2 may so turn over [turn the page]

my dear you said in your letter that I shou
tell you if I had any money and you wold
send me some but my dear I think
that We Will get pay before long
my dear I have 1.25 one dollar and twenty
five cents that cant eant mutch but I think
that you had better ceep What money
you have for I think I will get pay
before long my dear I will tell you
that Barnet koon is hear and is
well except he has the ear ache
he landed hear on the [9?] day of May
he said this morning he had wrot
A half quier of paper and had got
no ancier my dear Write soon and tell
me how the Wheat and all the other
things looks at home tell me What
you are doing with [?ill] if you are
fatning her for beef or not So I must
close by asking you to write soon an
often nothing more at this time only
