Dear Wife it is with the 2 . 1863
pleasure that I seat myself this blessed
Sabath morning to drop you Afew lines
Which leaves me well hoping those few
lines may finde you all well I received
your kinde letter dated the 21 which came
to hand last night my dear I have no
newse to write only We was cald in line
of battle yesterday eavning the cavalry was
fiting near culpepper all day but We never
got in it thank god my dear you said I
Shold tell you how my clothes was
my clothes is worn out that I brot from
home but the pants that I drawd is
good yet and I got me ashirt the other
day that I have not wore yet so I will
tell you I have Agood Suit on my shirt on [p???]
cost me ten dollars the pants $8 an the
shirt $2 but it comes out of our comutation
money and I will have to soon get me Apare
of shoes We cant have mutch on thease
marches for we cant stand to cary it i
have one blanket and one suit of clothes

and them I have on the chance for washing them
is bad some times we have to ware them A
bout threer and four weaks without washing
them you said I shold tell you if I got any
thing to eat my dear we make out With it
but it is not plentyful but if we wold
never get no less We can make out but it
is scant so my dear dont truble your Self
about it for you cant help it nor neither can
I so the best plan is to bare it as easy
as posable So I must close on that tell
my dear little children howday kiss them
all for me an tell them to be pretty boys
till pap gets home I do hope and pray that
it wont be long J. W is well but [D?].J
I have not heard from yet So I must close
my Short letter by asking you to Write
son and tell me all the newse at home tell
me how all the things looks at home and tell
me when you write if fathers and your
farthers famileys is boath well for they
must have forgotten me for they never
write So I close Write soon and fail not
