country here and no pines at all well
Jane now the mournful part must come we are
said to be in three miles of the yankees where they
are said to be in line of Battle, their drums
can be heard here there is some fighting going
on nearly every day but the general ingament has
not come [??] yet but in all probability [will come?] [1]
off before you get my letter or it may be deferd
for some days we soldiers can not tell what
the officers is going to [do?] for Genl. Johnston
says if he knew that his coat knew his
plan he would pull it off. But at all
counts it must come off soon infact I
look for orders to move every Hour, I must
close for this time. I am tolerable well tho I had
a chill & some fever last night but I think it
was caused from my yesterdays march T. Prosser [2]
& P.O.Eaddy was left in the Hospital yesterdaymorning [3]
E.E Stone is not well but is going. he said he [4]
would answer the letter that he got soon as he
could. P. O. Eaddy is up but not well W. G.
Thompson had ben in the Hospital evensince [5]
we came to Jackson, Tell Julian that I

would of wrote to her to day also but it is
now night & one letter must do for you
both. tell here to write to me often and
direct as before until I make the change
I will try to write once a week if I live
and if I fall I hope some of my
friends will duly apprize her of it
I long to see South Carolina & home once more
and hope I will but it is a narrow
chance for it is said one the big black [6]
where we are going is one of the [??????]
places in the state. the boys all send
their respects to you & accept mine
Give my love to Julian & the children
tell the Col to write to me & give me
all the newse
