Mr John Jefcoat I will wrte you a few lines
that I am well hoping this letter ma find you
and your famile well I have nothing of much
importance to write to you our camps is a
bout six miles from wite pinte and a bout [1]
five miles from Adams run I have stood picket
at wite pint I am now at kings point
as a curer to cary thispackes to head quarters [2]
I haft to stay a week at a place we are
move every week from one place to a nother
as pickets or currers the yankes has bin shelling
at our pickets several times tha have not hurt
no one yet we are exspecting them to tri to
land hear on the corse some wair now shortly [3]
if tha doo we are shore for a battle way every [4]
tha doo attack our legeon will be move thare
but I dont think tha will attempt to land
whear ever tha exspect to meet and amma [5]
tha will run up and shel us with thar gun
Bots and then give back tha is one three mass [6]
vessel stands in sight down wite pinte in
let all the time now and then she runs up

can shoot to the spot a bout too miles but when
we see her a coming we hast to git out of
the way and waite and see if eny of the men
coms on the land if tha doo given them battle
tha was six yankes in a row boat come upt
towards wite pinte this week got in about too
hundred yards of our pickets and saw them
and as tha went off our men fiard on them
with infiel Riffles and tha think tha cilled [7]
too after tha fiard the saw ondly four I have
bin on one scouting expedishion on edisstore ilan [8]
wich the yankee holds in posesion now we caught
some eightty negoes and ciled several it
was the ruffis time I every saw I never want
go on a nother one I tell you a sauder life is [9]
hard one the is no chance for a fur low now
but I think bi the first of March I can
git one to come home if I doo I will come bi to
see you I want you to write to me as soon as you can
