Richmond Verginia Aug the 24 1862
Dear Sister I now imbrace the oppertunity
of writing to you I am not very well
nor I have not bin in a good wile
Brother Sam is well at this time
I sincere hope that this letter ma find
you in good helth I am now at
Richmond I got here on the 22 of
August I dont no how long we will
remain here [not?] long dont think.. wen
I left home I taken the cars at Columbia
and I cought my Copany at Charlotte
in North Clina thare we could not
git transporation for our Horsses so
we had to march from thare to
Richmond on Our Horsses wich was
400 hundred miles or over so even
we leive here I Exspect that we
will go to Jackson at Gordonville
wich is a bout 100 miles fother on
thar tha exspect a large Battle thar
will be the next fighting thats dun
in verginia the yankees have
retreated from Richmond to

Gordonville and our men is after them
and I exspect that we will follow
them in to thare owne states
and invade thar soil some
Dear Sister I tell you that I ant ni
sadisfied nor I dont exspect to be as
long as the war last like meny others
is the Salt that I bared from you [1]
wen I was home I forgotten to git it
wen I was at Columbia but I will
pay you for it what it was worth
at that time I want you to write
to me rat off and tell me whar
Keitt Rig ment is wether it is [2]
on Sulivans Island yet or not I see that
Hagood Rigment pass here last
week and lotts of Others that I no
all going to Jackson Back your
