Dear Rachel I seat myself to
address you a few lines which
leaves me quite well also the rest
of the boys Henry landed safe to
camps last rights I hope this may
reach you and all well,
Dear Rachel I reached camps
safe the night I left home in the
morning and found all the boys
well and things was all right
with the captain and myself
Dear Rachel our Regt has Just
bin revewed this Eavening by
President Davis I had a good look
at the old Jentleman he is quite
a common looking article his dress
is quite common and plain for
a president but still I like his
apperiance verry well but I would
like for him to feed us a little better

Dear Rachel I have no greate
important news to right you at
presant the yankes are keeping
up a study fire uppon fort
sumter day and night but slow
by intervills of five or ten min=
=uts their fire are mostly from
the land batrys on Morris Island
occasionly asisted by the Moniters
tha are giting the walls of old
fort sumter verry much shat
=tered we had thirteen men killed
theire last saturday by the
falling in of her walls caused
by the bawls from the yanks
batrys those are the only casa
alitys I have heard of sience
I came down no doubt we will
have some stering time heare
in a day to come but I hope
things may all worke well for us yet

Dear Rachel I see in yesturdays
paper that tha have bin hard
fighting in the West in which
Jinkins brigade was ingaged and
no doubt suffored greate loss
col Killpatrick was killed the
loss of his Regt is yet unnoan
I dread to heare the casuality Expe
=cting to hear of some of our frien=
ds and relations being killed
Calvin Received a letter from
G. R. Furtick dated the 26 of oct
he was then well but much disati
=sfied he is ancious to git a trans
fur to this Regt I hope he may
doe so when he rot he had five
days rashins prepared to go on the
March no doubt to meet the battle
which has Just takin place but
I hope to heare from him soon that
he has come through all right

no what will be the result about
our cavalry company as the presid

and intervew with him and
arange the matter one way or the
other Rachel I started a letter to
B. J. P. Jefcoat this morning and will
Expect and answer from him
amediantly after he gits my
letter I rote to him to direct
my letter to Williamsons Mills
thinking I might be home in
a few days so if he should send
a letter theire for me before I git
home you can inclose it and send
it to me you will find inclosed a
small piece of money give it to sisey tell
her pa sends that to her and houdy too
