Dear Rachel I have Just had the
pleasure of receiveing yours of 22 inst
by Mr Wett and am glad to heare
that you and sisey are well but sorry
to heare that sister Ann has bin
so sick but hopes that she may soon
recover Dear Rachel wee have some=
=what stearing times heare now
the yankes have bin shelling the
city off and on for the last week
but have not don no serious damage
yet tha made another asault on
sumter last thursday night but
was repused it is thought with
considerable loss tha are also firi=
=ng Evry day uppon sullivans Island
and fort Johnson the firing is quite
heavy to day wee still have to go
on picket Evry other night it is
very disagreeable this cold rainey
weather to ly out all night

Dear Rachel our cavelry comp has
not yet orgainised but capt ses
thing are all working right and
thinks wee will organise in the
corse of 8 or ten days so I hope to see
home in the corse of 10 or 15 days but
when wee doe come wee will not
be alowed a longer furlough than
15 or 20 days I would be glad if it
could be so I could stay home
till after chrismas but I Expect
wee will have to return before that
time I have not yet hear Enney thing
from Elick wee have got the box by Mr=
Witt and fell thankfull it came
in a glorious time capt Dannelley ses
when wee all git home old Johnson
shal give a fly round I Expect tha
will make a regular stur when tha git
home I close my Respects to you all
