Letter No 6

Front roil Va August 14th 1864
Dear Rachel I avail mysel of another opportun
=nit of trying to write you a few lines in
answer to yours of the 5 inst which came
to hand yesturday while on the March
and was glad to from you and that you
ware all well and hopes the Blessing of
god may contine with you all, this leaves
myself and Brothers well as could be Exp
=ected tho we are nearly tired to deth from
from hard Marching we have bin on the
March for 3 days and have stoped about
1 Hour we have had the hardest and hotest
March of the war the old troops say it
is the worst march tha have ever had
all the time in and through the Mountain
and rock and but little water to drink
My Dear it Is imposable for me to give
you the full history of the travil now
I have not time the mail will soon
leave and I dont no when I will have
another opportunit of sending off a letter
I only write you this short letter that
you May no where we are and that we are
well

My Dear our March have bin through
what is called Sniggers gap we are now in
a half mile of the Schenando river Generl
Early is on the other side and we will
cirtainly go to him before we stop tha have
bin fiting there the last day or too and
we Expect to be into it in a few days
My Dear you can not posable give Eney
Idia of the hardships and suffering of
of a soldiers life I have abou come to the
conclusion that it would be a pleasure to
me to be at home where I could be decently
buried there die and git out of trouble
I will write you more Next time
Henry ses tell Father that he will
answer his letter soon as he can
you can sell the shoes if you wish
my love and Respt you all
