South Carolina { September the 14th 1863
Laurens District {
my Dear husband it is with pleasure
that I seat my self this eavning to drop you a few lines to let
you know how we are Getting on the baby is sick yet he has hot
fevers and pukeing and he has got a very bad cold he has got 2 teeth and
can Get up by a chair but he keeps so puny it makes me uneasy
I am afraid that he will never be raised I cant help but think of my little
Lueler my sweet little girl oh bless her I shurely never can Get over it
as long as I live but if I can only raise my baby it will be some satisfaction
I am well with the exception of toothache the rest is all well I recieved a
letter from you to day dated the 6 I was glad to hear that you was well
the 50 dollars was in it I recieved 2 letters from you last week dated
the 23 and 30th but I never answerd them I was waiting for wash to go
back he is going to start to morrow eavning you stated in your letter
that you want me to send you some bacon by wash billy I dont
know whare I could Get mutch but report says that mc claws division
has come back to the cost that they past Colbumbia yesterday but I
dont know how true it is if it is so wash wont go to richmond
but if I node he would I would send some meat I wish you war
nier home whare you could Get something to eat without paying
so high for it and if I live I hope I will have something without
buying it and I hope the time ant far off when you will have the
privealige of coming home to live with me well billy I will tell you
somthing about the meeting we have had at quaker thier was

20 baptised last Sunday and they had meeting thier last night
washes laurens and em bruce Joined and was baptised this eavning
mary Cooper Joined at quaker thier has about 35 or 40 Joined at
poplar Willis and betsy and Jane all Joined at poplar and thier is
a big meeting going on at the ridg but I dont know whither
their is many Joined or not billy I love to go to the quaker
for the sake of the graves that is thier oh I can go to that little
grave and think of a sweet little child that is laid thier but oh
how happy she is people ought never to grieve at the death of
a child for we know that they are happy or have all ground to
believe it billy I dont think you need to send more than 2 pounds
of blue stone I expect we can Get it that cheap at the cort house
it was selling at 5 dollars sometime ago it soon will be time to sow
wheat pap has never seen John Deavenpart yet about them bottoms
I wish we had them a good hand [??] tind them we could make some
corn martha cooper got a letter last Sunday from James henderson
at richmond that tom cooper was dead he died the 26 of last novembr
at the small pox hospitle both of henry watkins children
died that was sick when you was at home thier has been a great deal
of that soar throat about since you went off I will close by saying
to you to rite soon I remain your wife until death Margret Box
