Laurens District }
My Dear husband it is with
pleasure I seat my self this eavning to drop
you a few lines in answer to your kind letters
which come to hand yesterday one dated January
the 3 and the other the 17 the money come Safe
at last I was glad to hear that you was well
Irby seems like he was a little better though
his Jaw is a going to rise he is bad off yet
I hope he will Get well well billy I tryed
to hire John arnold but he wont make a
crop unless we will find him a house
for his family to live in and I cant make
that trip I dont know what to try to do
it is a pitty for the ground to ly idle you
stated in your letter that you wanted me
to send you some butter I will the first
chance the flax thread you sent seems like
it is very good you rote about the brandy I
dont expect I could Get any brandy any whear
but I will try

well billy every one of our little pigs is dead
I expect that they froze to death I dont know what
els it has ben very cold weather
the colt has mended up a rite smart since you went off
it takes a heap of corn and fodder to do them I got
25 bushel from pap the other day and a load of
shucks I want to try to make out on what
I have got I want you to come home Just as quick as you
can I am going to have 2 bushels of oats
sowed you must not for Get to bring
my blanket when you come mama say
for you to bring her one and she will pay
you for it she says if she can Get any whiskey
made she wil let you have a galon of brandy the
brandy is very scarce now I have not seen
Deavenport since I rote my last letter I dont
know wheather he has got out of the notion
of trading or not though he told me that he
had sent the nots on for you to sign I dont
know whethar we could ever pay for them or not I dont
expect that you will ever Get the chance to buy them
any more though it is a big price cotton is not
bringing much now 50 or 60 cts a pound if you live and
have luck you may pay for them I wish we had some body
to tend them if you do Get them I will close / Margret
