Richmond, Virginia
Dear Father
I Again with pleasure have taken my
pen in hand to drop you A few Lines
I am well at present & hops to the
Almighty that thes Lines May Reach you
in dew time & find you all well &
enjoying good health Father I dont no as
I have Much news to write you and I am
Most tired to Death this Day was A week
Ago whitch was Last Saterday we
taken up A Line of March & was March
five Days & in the time of it we March
one knight we March A bout one hundred
Miles Father I will Say to you that we
are now Lying in Sid of General
Johnston Army A Resting we are so
nigh tired Down Again I am now
wrigting & the Righting of Johnstson
Army is now Fighting & has
bin all Day Since I have bin
wrighting I have heard one hundred

I hear that the enemy yesterday Sent
A flag of truse to berry their Dead & in
plaice of berrying their Dead they Comin[?]
throwing up breast works & our forces
found them out & gave them batle
& I hear that our forces Completly whipe
them killing & takeing them all prisn[ers?]
I hear they taken four thousand of them
prisners I have writen all the news
I bleive
I will Say to you that all of
the nabor boys is well except
Doc Mc..Donald he is at Richmond
in the hospital I do not no how
he is geting Father I Say to you
that I want you to write oftener to
the Last Leter I Received from you
was wrote the fourth of May
