I imbrace the opportunity to Drop you A few
Lines to Lete you no how I am geting
A Long I am well except A bad Cole
I Received A kind & interesting Leter from you
this Morning whitch was Received with Great
Welcom & plesure it was wrote the 30th.. of May
in it you wrote that you was all well whitch was
Great Satisfaction to me nothing Chers me
Lack that of Receiving A Leter from My
Father or friends of Pickens District in your Leter
you wrote that you Sent A Leter by Dr.. McWort[??]
& that I did not write whether I ever got it or
not I wrot it but prehaps you never got the
Leter I Sent; this is Seven Leters I writen to
you & in your Leter that I Received this Morning
you only wrot of geting three from me
on the other page I will write you Something of
the batle before Richmond

whitch was fought the 31st of May 1862 and
first of June; Since the batle I have writen you
two Leters & this is the third one this Morning
Paper brings us & offiscial Report of the batle
the Loss of the Confederats 23 hundred kill
wonded & Mising, the kill was two hundred
The Loss of the Federals four thusand kill
wonded & Missing & we taken Eigh hundred
prisners that the yankes Givs an account of
withe the prisners the yankes admits their Loss
to be About five thousand
The Numember of Federals & Confederatin
in the fight the Number of Confederats in the
engagment was thirty thousand whil that
of the yankes was from fourty to fifty
thousand; I writen in My other Leter our
Situation we are in two or three Miles of
Richmond on the North Side or rather
A North East

I Supose you heard Smething of the Great
Victery of our noble General whitch he got
in May General Jackson is yet on
The Potomack he has A Army of About
twenty thousand The paper brings news
that he has Cross the Potomack & March
in to Marland & has Gain two Great
Victerys During the Last Month the last victery
this Morning paper bring us it is Confirm
that he has Completly whiped the enemy
& Routed them & was in persuite & had bin
for Several Miles takin all of their Artilery
& Camp Stores & thousands of Dolars of
Goverment propity; & had taken Several
thousand prisners; the paper brings us news
that the Ladies of Marland as our noble
General Marches his Armey thrue the City
Claps their hands & Says we are free
we are free; oh what A Glorious thing
if our noble General Can only hold
the State of Marland

Father you wote that you had Received the Salt
whitch I Sent to you whitch I was Raily Glad
to hear that you had got for I Supose it is very
high & also you wrote that wheat Crops was not
intirly Ruin whitch I was glad to hear of
wheat in this country I Recond is as good as it
ever is, this is the best wheat Country I Recond
you ever Saw the best wheat I ever Saw is in
this Country
I bleive I have writen all the war news
all our nabor boys is well except Charley
Dalton he is in the hospital uncle John Gleen
is well but uncle George is not well he is;
he is also in the hospital

what number of Leter you get from Me
