Dear Father
I take the pleasure this bautiful Sunday eavning
to Drop you A few Lines to Let you no that
I enjoy the good blesing of God & that is health
though I have no interesting news that is of
interest to Me but I expect evry thing hear would
be interesting to you but it is two tedious to writ
evry thing the boys is all tolible well A.. J. Dalton
is A Litle unwell but not very bad
June the 17..1862
I Again take the pleasure to Drop you A few More Lines
I am yet well & hops that thes few Lines May reach
you in Dew time & find you all well & enjoying
good health the Reasen I did not finish My
Leter when I Cominst is that we have no tents
& Day befor yesterday Direcly I Cominst writing
it began to Reign & yesterday we Move, the Distance
we Move is About three Miles Right Down the
Chickahomey Creek {or River}

the Reasen we Move was to get in to Generald
Gregs Brigad General Gregs was Formely A
Colonel; of the first South Carolina Regt
Since he Came to Virginia he has ben promoted
too Brigadier General & we are mov in Gregs Brigade
our Brigade is intirely of South Carolina trops
it is Composed of our Regt & the 1st.. & 12th.. 13th.. & 14th
Father the only news I have worth writing
is Last Saterday General Stured tuck 15 hundred [1]
Cavelry & one batery of Artilery & flank the enemy
on the Left & past Clear Around the Rear of
Mc..Clelon Armey General Stured on his Csut [2]
taken one hundred wagon & four hundred horses
& Muls & bernt three Larg Comisary Storys &
Distroyeds two Millions of Dollars worthe of
propety & also taken two hundred yankes prisners
General Stured Receives great prais & honor on
his Csouting Expeton of Distroying Such A [3]
Vast Amount of propiety for the enemy
Father I will Say to you that we are yet in the
Naborhood of Richmond I Supose the Distance
is About three Miles

to be in A fight evry Day
