Camp Near Green Pounds [SC] Jan.. 21 [1865]
Dear Wife and Children
I imbrace the preasent oppertunity of writing
to you wonce more to let you know how
I am comming on by this time Ill say to you
that I am well as common to day
I hope & trust to the Almity that these
lines may fined you all well & dooing
well you see from the heading
of this Letter that we have moved wonce
more we came to this place last monday
Ill Say to you that we are expecting fight
evry day we were cald out line of Battel
last Tuesday we were cald out againe but
the yankeys drove in our Picketts & we burnt
the Brige across the Coumebee & the
Enmy did undertake to crose as yet as know
of we have pretty strong forse & pretty
Stong brest works their has bin a great
deal of work done hear this week
Ill Say to you that their was pretty
Smart Battel near the pount yesterday
between our own forse through mistake
I have undersod that 11 Kild & seventy
wounded

Lands in this section I have ever seen &
if you have get all of my Letters
you will sepose at wonce that I have
seen good deal of this Cost Country
but I getting verry tired moving abuot
So much but we have to go evry
were our officers sees proper to send
us but the most of us is geting pretty
well broke down this camp is about
thirty miles below Adams Run I wite
you two Letters frome that Camp
I dont know whether you have ever
get them or not I not get but three
frome you but I dont know whether you
have writin eney more or not but I think
you have the last letter I had frome
you was dated the 3 of jan I think long of time
to here frome home but will be glad to
hear from home at eney time
I would be glad you will write wonce a week
I have writin every week ever since I
have bin down hear & some times Twice
but I have not much chance of writing
onley of Sunday that has bin generaley
rest day this has bin verry bisey week
withe us & we have had bundance of

Ill say to you that our rathion is
verry light in way of Brad Stuff for 3 days
rathions we draw 1 pt of meal ½ pt of flower
on 1 pt rice when I am well I could eat
my rathion in day & we all most to eat
our Beef without Salt we have alwayed
get verry good Beef evry thing is verry
Scarce & high Salt $8 per qt & we can not
get verry much at that our mess baught
one bushel of Corn yesterday
we have bin in habit of bying at
$1 per qt I have picket up corn wher
the horses has bin feed & was glad to get
it at that I never knew what it was
to be hungrey untill I came dow hear I am
geting verry weak but for the want of
Something to eat but we have pretty well of
Bread Stuff now but it Cant last as we are
all bin verry hungrey , I dont Sea as their
is chance for you to Send me box if you
have eney good canc to send me Box of
provesion but dont do it without it is care
of some person, this country is so nigh
eat out we can not expect to get much hear
but I dont thik we will stay here long

Capt Lester is going up to
Charleston or Columbia to draw our
money in day or Two but I am not out
money yet I have [?]ubed out my Clothes verry much
but I will draw some Clothing the next
time I have an oppertunity of drawing my
nothion is I would rather have the Clothes
then the money as it is but verry littel
acount down hear old Clothes is verry readdy sale
to these Peopeal down hear I fined my
Baggage is most too havey to carey but
I have made out to carey it all except
my old sholder Blanket that I left at
Pocotalico I want you to write to
me all the news give my Best Respects
