Elisha Kindred Flournoy (1838-1889) was born in Georgia. At the time of the 1860 Federal Census, he was living in the household of his parents, Jonathan C. Flournoy (b. VA ca. 1798) and Elizabeth Flournoy (b. NC ca. 1800) on their Pike County, Alabama farm. He had at least four sisters living with him and his parents. In 1860, Elisha married Martha (Mattie) Haygood (1844-1914). He enlisted in Co. H, 46th Alabama Infantry on February 7, 1863 and served as a private. Flournoy was captured at Port Gibson, Mississippi on May 1, 1863 and confined at Alton, Illinois. He survived the war, and he and his wife had at least four children.
