my health is very bad I have bin
Sick for three Weeks but am geting
Tom has bin Sick for about five [2]
Weeks but is gting well Kosin Bill
is ded he died knight belast hear
at the Same horspital that I am
he had the Numner he Was not sick
only about Six days & Knight Tobe you
Know that I hated to sea him gow but
I was mity sick at that time I Waited
on Tom two Weeks be fore I got sick
Tom has had ahard time of it I have
bin mity sick though I have praid to old Mas

- The “Tom” mentioned in the letter may be an older brother, although he can’t be located in the 1860 Census. A private named Thomas W. Thrower served in Co. B, 14th Alabama Infantry. He was from Lowndes County and was 31 when enlisted in July 1861. It may be that he was Thomas W. Thrower, Jr. He was captured at the Battle of Salem Church on May 3, 1863, paroled, and later killed at the Battle of Petersburg on July 30, 1864.

- James died in Richmond a month later
