Campt at Port Royal Va August the 25th
Dear Companion I seat my
Self to Drop you afew lins witch leaves
me in good helth at the present hoping
those few lins may Come saif to hand
and find you well and Doing well I
receved you kind letter last Eavning
Baring the Date of August the 10th and
I was verry Glad to hear from you I
was mity Glad to hear that you was all
well I have nothing of intrust to right to
you at the present I have rote 2 letters to
you since we have Ben hear at Port
Royal I Can say to you that I lik
this Country around hear the Best of
Any Part of the State that I have ever
Saw the People all seems to Bee as
kind to us as tha Can Bee ther is
Not But 2 Regts hear that is the 47th & 48
Ala and them 2 Regt has Ben together
all the time ever sence we have Ben
out in Servis we Come all the

from way from Ala to gether and we
have Ben together all the time Sence
I Dont No how long we will Stay hear
though I would Bee willing to Stay hear
til the war Closes if it Should Stop
Soon I am of the opinion that we will
have one or 2 more Big fights and then
I think that maby will Bee all the hard
fighting though the war will Not Stop
Shortley the war will go on for Some
time we ar Not whipt yet By lots
Some of the men is trying to make
out like we ar Nearley whipt But
that is all faults for we ar just Now
getting Ready to fight I think that we
will fight the Enemy for the Next
10 years to Come the yanks may kill all
of us though tha Cannot Never whip
General Lee I hope that the time
may Soon Come when we may
meat gain that would Bee ahappy

git to go home verry Soon But the prospect
is verry Glomey at the present for us to go
home I wount you to Do the Best you

Carlile rote to me about that land and

that I hope to hear from you Soon I sent
one hundred Dollars to Lafayette for you
and I wount you to right to me about
it as soon as you git it I send
my Beste love & respect to you and the
Children and to Burthia So I must
Close for the present So Nothing
