                                   Camps neer Dalton Ga
my dear sister i this day take my pen in hand
to rite you a few lines to let you no that i receive
your letter of the 24 i got the letters that you rote to
William and red them and the letter that his sister
Elizabeth rote to him i got them all and red
them though i dont know hardly how to answer
them for William hant here i expect he is in
yankeydom some whers or other nerley all of our Boyes
was either cilled or wounded or taken prisners
Lieut cline sed he thnks William was taken prisoner
Well Rody i find in reading of your letter that you
had sent William some close by mich Dunn
and i dont no whether he has got back or not i
hant herd anything of fowlers Battrey since the
fight if i can her anything of it i will
try to find out something a bout his close i
will git them if i can and sell them or do
the best that i can with them William got them
pants that you sent by John handley hed
had them on when he went in to the fight
[??] well you must all do the best that you can
for your sisters and rite to me as often as you can
[??] [?????] is sick in camps and John handly is sick
in camps so turn and read

We see very hard times here what few
thare is of us left we dont git a nuff to eat
WA Pendly was wounded in the fight i hant herd
from him since well i would like to take
dinner with you to day if it was so that i
could though it is so that i cant i would like to rite
some to daddys folks though i am a looking for
a letter from some of them evry day and I will
wate and see if i cant git a [???] [??] tel
all of the Connection to rite to me so i will
hav to quit well Asa you sed in
youre letter tha you though if bil was thar
that you and him could cill sum of them
old Bucks though i expect Billy is dunn
cilling deer for the ware fer they wont
exchange any more prisners thy say all they
git now will be cept till the ware ends
and i hope that wont be long well Asa you
and Tom must git together and cill a deer
for a christmas trick so i will come to
