John C. Mercer, Surgeon
Lynchburg Febry
25th 1863
Dear Madam,
I regret to inform you
that your husband died in this
Hospital on the 5th Febuary sud-
-denly. He had been walking
about all day & becoming sick
in the night, lived but a
few hours. He had been
here but about three weeks
& was not improving in health
Every attention was paid him while alive
& he was decently buried in
the grave-yard allotted to
soldiers. This is the second
letter that has been written
to you giving you this infomation
but fearing you may not receive
the first, I now write this
second one. I sympathize with
you in you affliction.
Very respectly your obedt. servt.
John C. Mercer
Surgeon
