August the 18 18.62. Deare [?] Father I again seate
myself down to inform you i am not very well tho i am mutch
better then i wase when i wrote before hoping these few lines

may find you and famialy well Deare father i Should not of wrote
know but we have got orders to march to Gordensville About 90
miles futher down in the vallies to Reinforce Stone wall Jackson
when we git ther tha is no telling whare we shall go he is fighting
most ever week we Shall Start to morrow morning we have orders to
Cook three days provisions i received [??] letter on the 15 that wase dated
the 8 i wase more then glad to heare you and famialy wase well and my
wife and child wase well i wase glad the boys got home and got in a camp
any of ther chois. if i wase in thomas and james place i Should Stay as long
as i could before i should tunrn out any more ife i Should be taken as
prisioner or Sicken and dye or git kill if these things Should
tak place and you dont hear from me no more between this and
chrismas i want you to Sell my horse if you can git
any thing like the worth of him also you may Sell the buggy
if you can git $50 Dollars that is if i am taken prisioner otherwise
you can not if i am kill i want you to see to the selling of my

oats if i can not come to See to it and you may sell that old fodder
or send word to Neill Mclean tell him to sell it just as soon as he
can give Angeline the money and She will Pay any of you for what
you don for her i want See you all mighty once more i
would give most any thing to See Angeline and the baby for i have
not got any letter from her sence i left home tell her i want
her to write if She has not i merialy mention these things that
if it Should be so it is nothing imposable you know i want
you to write Soon and Direct you letter the Same way and it will
follow the Regts untell i write again william is tolerable well at this
time he has not got nary letter from his wife sence he left
home he dont know what to thing of it at least sence
he has been in virginnia tell Angeline to git her hogs
home just as soon as posable i know tha are not douing Right
ther if she could start with them some morning thay
would be no dainer in moving them i have Reduced very
mutch sence i left home i had 3 chills and feell very week
to go on march i dont believe i can stand it long so i must
