Camp near Guineys Stasion VA Decr 19th 1862
Mr Sollamon Carpenter
} Dear father I drop you a few lines
to let you know that I am well & I hope theas few lines
may find you & famaly the same & Dear father I Received
your kind letter a few Days past Stating you was all
well which I was proud to hear & Dear father I have bin in
a nother hard Battle at Fedrecks Burg I was not In gaged
in the firs but I was under the Shelling for 3 dayes we whiped
the yankeys & Ran them a cross the River So we have
move out A bout 90 Miles from Fedrecks Burg but I
cant Say how long or whair we will go next but
we think it will be Port Royal or some whaire South [??]
Dear father you Stated Brother James was Dead & Som of the Rest
Sick father I want to no of you if you know any thing of the
Rest of mi brothers that is in the Servis I Dont no any thing
of any of them I want you to rite to me just as soon as this
comes to hand & let me no whair they are that is if you know
Father you Stated [many?] things that was [??] [??] or wair was high
it is the same hear corn is 50 cents pr pound bacon 75 to two Dollar
flower 20 or 25 Dollars pr bbl & Every thing in per potion
I Dont sea how this war can last mutch longer but ther
Aint no telling for it is Somthing that is head of man [1]
To no when it will end &c Father you Requested to no how I faird
When i was in Maryland Sir mi fair was vary bad for we had to
Steal Rosten years to Eat to keep from parishing I Saw many
Curiositis & a number of good farmes & the best wheat Country
I Ever Saw & Splendid Land but very Rockey in som parts over

I faird well a nuf to Save mi life & I was
proud of that &c Dear father I would be proud to sea
you & all the Rest but I am in the Servis & thair ant
no chance to get out as I Sea of Brother Robert
waunted to no whaire his Redgiment was it is Rit
with mi Ridgment & the first NC Ridgment & 4 & 44
Gorga makes our brigade which in under Gineral Davis
Brigade & D. H. Hills Division & in Jackson Core & c
Brother Robert I waunt you to bring me som to bacon
& A quart of Brandy &c So I will close by Saing you
must all Rite to me Soon & often Send me Som Rad pepper
when you Rite Direct your letter to Richmon VA
