Dear miss I seat my self with
pleasur to in form yo my whare
bouts and whare forths I am
on the land amongst the living
in good helth & my dear love
I do hope when those few lines
reaches your hand that they will
find you enJoying the same
blesing of helth I received your
letter yesterday and I was
very glad to hear from yo and to
hear that yo was well and would I more
so glade to se yo we are out on
picket guard to day a watching
for the yankeys we are looking
fore a fight every day I think
one more fight will end the war

and then I can return home
and enJoy my self with the
girls yo say what yo hop that
peace will soon bee made so that
we can return home I hope so
too a solgers life is a hard one
yo wrote that you was knot a
going to git married till the
solgers got home that is the
way I like to hear the girls
talk wait for the solgors
the coward had better stand
clar when the solgers gits
back I think my self they
had better hunt them a
hole in the mountains tell
miss Emeline to wait till
I git back and I come to
the wedding if she dont
I want yo to send me some
of the pound cake I would
like to bee in old Catawba
to go to the corn shucking

of yo my pen is bad my ink
is pale my love to yo shal
never fail give my best respects
to all inquiring friends
give my best respects to Miss
Elithy and mandy tell thim
to writ to me and I
will write to them
