Camp Long oct the 24th 1862
Dear Miss i seat my self to let
you know that i am not well
at present i have bin sick for two
week and i haint mutch better
yet yo i have got the yaller janders
and the liver complaint i hope
when those few lines comes to hand
they may find you well and
Doing well i have wrote you two
letters and this makes the third one and
no answer yet and if you do not answer
this i will not write eny more untell i git
an answer from your fair hand and I
would love to see you to very bad
and all thee rest But i dont expect
to see you soon we see heard times
here and hearder times a coming we have
to Drill twist a day on our horses i
herd that josey had come home a
gain and george Moss and tell these
when they go back call and see
me for i want to see them [“the
worst” crossed out] mity bad the rest of the
Boys is all well but not satis
fied they want to go home

The Doctors wanted me to go to the
hospittle and i told them at I would
ent go but I woonde up there last
Sunday and look at the hospitle
and it stunk so i wouldent stay
the hospittle is at garysburg right
clost to the railroad we are where
no where empties in to nothing and it would
Cheer my Sould to have a womens voice oh
if i could but look on your lovely features
it would make my loveing heart throb
with convultion I lov you to my very
Soul and I wish you was locked in my
arms and the kee was lost then i would
be the happyest man in the universe
you littel sweet you i love you so i
could all most eat you well i do not wish
to weary your patience but i hope you
will answer those few lines. that is if
you think me worthy of an answer from
your fair hand. so i will close for the
present. your sincere friend
