you know that I am
well at this time
I hope & trust those
fiew lines may safely
reach your lovely
hand & find you
well & doing well
Dear Miss I can in
form you that our
company got cut up
by the emeny on the
fourth instant they
was 2 men kill Dead
on the field & 4 wounded
& supposen thirteen
takeing prisen

&they got 35 horses
they dident git none
of our catawba boys
they was 7 of us boys
a long I was one that
was In the fight
wilson sherrill bob
holdsclaw william
robinson John Niell
& 2 of the Mondays
I had to leav my
horse to save my
self the yankees
had us surrounded
but I would get out
I runn right a pass
them & they was shooting
at me but the balls
come close to me & I
run in to the swamp
& staid till next
morning in the water

that I will get to
come home beefour
long to get me a horse
